graduation

i've always wanted to visit scandinavia. i had never been there, neither did my family, but i have always felt the urge to go there. something inside told me i would just love it. the people, the quietness, the nature. so with a free half year coming up, i decided to just book a plane ticket to oslo and see what happens. for the rest of the month september, i had a train ticket to travel from place tot place. i didn't plan anything, except for my stay in bergen. if i would love it somewhere, i would stay a bit longer, if i hated it, i would leave. i travelled through norway, sweden, and finland, sleeping on couches and extra beds from people who joined the couchsurfing community. everyday i saw the most amazing views, met amazing people, and had an amazing time.

at my arrival home, i just instinctly started etching whatever came to mind. after a few works, i found out actually everything was about 'home'. pretty places where i felt at home, little wooden scandinavian houses, things i took home with me on my trip.
next week i will hopefully graduate, and exhibit all the works i made since my trip. for now, the only thing i can show is a little preview of one of my etchings. this one is about 10x10 centimeter, but most of them aren't bigger than 5cm.

if you're able to, feel free to come check them all out at the timmerfabriek in maastricht, netherlands. my work will be exhibited from 2-5 juli, and entrance is free!

WORK

for my graduation project I decided to book a flight to oslo, and spend a month travelling through scandinavia. i did not plan anything, and spend most of my nights on the couches and extra beds of friendly people I met along the way. during my stay i took pictures, kept a diary, collected things, and recorded sounds. when I arrived back home, i started making small etchings about my trip. i noticed most of my work was about 'feeling at home'. what caught my attention was that i could feel at home in so many places. even if I was alone, eating an apple next to a glacier. i started to ask myself a lot of questions. what is home? why do you feel at home somewhere? could something help you feel at home when you're far away?

my final work is an amulet and talisman, offering you safety and luck. on the left side you can find one of my etchings, made after places where I felt at home. on the right side I can write a special message for your loved ones. it is a take-away reminder of home, close to your heart.

all my etchings are also on sale for 70 euro a piece including frame, in limited edition of twelve pieces.
let me know if you'd like one!
